Well, believe it or not we have received our furniture and it is in one piece. Nothing was damaged on its long journey. Once it got to Los Angeles,it went by train to New York and then by truck back to Boston. My husband then picked it up in his truck at the freight terminal in Boston. The furniture looks beautiful. I will send you a picture once I get the bed made up with linens. Thank you for separating the columns, it really made getting the bed into the room so much easier. Your packing also worked well. Just for your future customers, you do not need a customs agent for personal effects. We didn't even have to fill out any paperwork at customs, and there was no duty tax because it is furniture. It was hard in the beginning trying to find out what to do to be prepared, but now we know. It only cost us $116 to get the furniture out of the terminal. Next time, I also found out, to get it closer to CT, I can get the items shipped "on bond", to a customs clearance office in CT.
