Here I will cover my deep feelings on prejudice
people. The South of the United States is known for this. I even
have to disagree with my mom and dad on this sometimes. I will tell
of many experiences up until my the recent case when a man would
not allow us to rent some land in America because my wife was Indonesian
and he does not allow black people to rent from him.
What does Indonesian word bule mean?
To me it is a word that is used to degrade a group of people. Much
the same as the word Nigger does in the USA to the black people.
Nigger is used to degrade the black race because of their heritage
in America. It was used a lot more in the past than today since
people in America have learned to respect other peoples race and
creed.
The meaning of this in a literal since was an uneducated, stupid,
lazy, black, and slave.
My point is that I feel that bule to me means white people, authoritative,
rich, and kafir or unbelievers in Allah. Some would say it only
means white people, but if this was true why not just use the word
putih instead of inventing a new word. People are generally shortening
the spoken language, not extending it unless they have a good reason.
If this is true then when this word is used it is referring to the
white race in whole. Even if the person saying it is looking at
some person he hates.
I am so offended by this word, not for my own pride but more for
the latter. I personally do not see people by the color of their
skin. So it offends me to no end to have someone distinguish a group
of people by using degrading words like this.
And last but not least I feel that they have
no respect for the prophets, as many of them were also white men,
not all. But as a Muslim anyone hearing this should be quick to
defend against such use of this word as it is degrading upon the
prophet Muhammad, the messenger of Allah whom was of the white race.
None of the characteristics of this fit myself and I know that they
did not fit the prophet's character.
I point this out because during Ramadan a group of about ten boys
came through our neighborhood beating on drums at two in the morning
while I was praying. As they passed my home they started chanting
bule, bule... until they passed my home. Yet no one was offended
except my family and myself.
